Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much does the service cost your clients?Clients are invited to make a voluntary donation. We do not have any fixed charges nor do we undertake any form of means testing. Our volunteers hold a supply of donation envelopes and clients may make a donation when the task is done but wherever possible we encourage clients to make donations by standing order as this avoids cash handling and is easier to use. We have to live in the real financial world and there is no doubt we depend on clients making a realistic donation, but no pressure is applied.
-
Will you do tasks on a regular basis?Yes we do. Examples of this are shopping trips, visits to Luncheon Clubs, and companionship.
-
How much notice do you need to undertake a task?Unless the task has been set up as something to be done on a regular basis, we need a minimum notice of 2 CLEAR WORKING DAYS. This gives us the necessary time to find a volunteer willing to undertake the task (e.g. if you want something done on a Thursday, we must be contacted no later than the preceding Monday).
-
Do you run any group activities? No. There are a lot of social activities operating in our catchment area and we do not believe there is justification for us setting up any more. We do however publish a list of all such activities and can offer support should you wish to make contact
-
Are you part of a larger organisation? No. We were set up in 1981 by what was then called the “Llanishen Council of Churches”. However we are now a totally independent organisation and a registered charity, presently the only good neighbour scheme of this type in Cardiff.
-
How are clients referred to you?By all sort of methods! Some hear about us by word of mouth, some are referred by the local authority, some by hospital discharge, by GP surgeries or by seeing one of our flyers. This website encourages you to use the referral form, but calls to our office are always welcome.
-
What areas do you cover? We cover a number of areas in North Cardiff, namely: Thornhill, Llanishen, west Lisvane, Heath, Roath Park, Lakeside and West Cyncoed. (See our Map)
